The Team Leader role at Hawthorn Recovery Unit plays a key role in Older Adults Mental Health Service at the North London Foundation Trust.

A key aspect of the service is to provide timely and intensive interventions, allowing individuals to receive the treatment and support they need whilst remaining in their own home.

The post becomes available from April 2026 due to the current Team Leader retiring

Main duties of the job

Provides clinical and managerial leadership for the service.

Ensures the service is safe, effective and responsive to clinical need.

Promotes a positive team culture to strive for excellence in service delivery.

Responsible for recruitment ensuring that the team has safe staffing levels and that staff have the range of skills required to carry out their individual roles.

Manages timely patient flow through the service from referral to discharge, working closely with the Consultant Psychiatrists and keyworkers.

Uses a wide range of online systems for clinical, staff and resource management

Provides supervision, appraisal and training to support staff development

Manages a small clinical caseload carrying out assessments, treatment interventions and working with carers and family members

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* oA professional clinical qualification is required oDip BSc Occupational Therapy or oDip/BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing, or other AHP
* oCurrently Registered with appropriate professional body
* Further training - Leadership, supervision or mentoring, training
* Post graduate training relevant to older people and / or mental health


Experience

* Experienced Clinician - Post registration experience up to at least Band 6 level Mental Health nurse/OT / AHP preferably in a mental health setting working with older adults with functional mental health needs
* Experienced in complex clinical risk assessment
* Experience of leadership
* Experience of Quality Improvement
* Experienced using Rio patient electronic records and caseload management
* Experience of change management


Knowledge

* Knowledge of leadership and quality improvement
* Specialist knowledge relating to mental health care delivery including Dialog plus, Mental Capacity Act and Safeguarding
* understanding of medication management including controlled drugs and FP10's


Skills

* Comprehensive leadership skills
* Ability to work at pace, prioritise workload and manage time effectively
* Ability to plan and problem solve clinically and at a team level
* Ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessment and implement risk management plans.
* Ability to supervise and appraise staff
* Effective IT skills to use a range of electronic systems
* Specialist clinical skills developed through professional training eg health coaching, CBT, motivational interviewing


Personal Qualities

* Personal Resilience to manage varied and busy workload and complex clinical needs
* Highly committed to teamwork
* Confidence as a clinician and leader
