Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Ward Administrator to join the Dermatology team within the Blood, Cells Cancer Unit.

The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Ward based members of the Dermatology team whose admissions are managed on Pelican Ward. Working with and supporting the multi-disciplinary team to provide a co-ordinated care package for patients under the care of the Dermatology specialty.

Core hours are 08:30am – 16:30pm. However, the post holder must be able to work flexibly to cover regular meetings that occur outside their normal working hours.

As well as collaborating closely with the Consultants, Registrars and Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Trust, you may also be asked to liaise with external agencies. You must be able to work calmly under pressure and have a proven history in using your own initiative and prioritising your workload to meet tight deadlines.


Main duties of the job

* The post holder will work within the Administrative and Clerical team within the Blood, Cells and Cancer Division and is expected to take responsibility for the co-ordination of the administration needs across the wards.
* The post holder will ensure that the ward reception areas have adequate cover and support at all times; that families are welcomed onto the ward; that phones are answered, and communication accurately recorded and that admin processes are efficient and of a high standard. They will also ensure that clinics are set up and run smoothly and will be expected to liaise with patients and their families via telephone to arrange admission.
* The post holder will also be expected to support the secretarial service across the Blood, Cells, and Cancer Division to deliver a high quality, responsive service to clinicians and their teams, thereby enabling a high quality and timely service to patients and their families. The post holder may be required to work weekends on a rota basis.
* There is an expectation that the post holder will work at a high level, taking pride in their work and taking the initiative to ensure the Unit’s administrative function is efficient and to a high quality at all times.
