The Critical Care team is seeking an experienced and highly motivated senior nurse leader to join us in this pivotal role. The successful candidate will lead a large directorate of staff across multiple hospital sites, ensuring the delivery of consistently high quality care and maintaining the highest standards for our patients.
This is a cross site position, with St Mary’s Hospital recognised as a Major Trauma Centre. The postholder will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our directorate improvement plans, driving quality and safety initiatives, and taking responsibility for the efficient and effective use of financial resources within the Directorate.
We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate strong leadership,excellent communication, and evidence of collaborative working within a fast paced environment. The successful candidate will be asolution-focused and proactive problem solver, able to lead large and diverse teams through change and improvement initiatives.
As part of the Directorate triumvirate, you will work in close partnership with the Clinical Director and General Manager, contributing to the overall strategic and operational direction of the service. The successful candidate will be required to be highly visible and engaged leader, supporting staff at all levels. A close working relationship with the triumvirate will be essential to ensure effective coordination of service delivery, workforce planning, and financial management.
Main duties of the job
1. The Lead Nurse for the Critical Care will provide strategic and operational leadership across all Intensive Care Units and associated services within the Trust. They will ensure patients receive safe, effective, and high-quality care that achieves excellent clinical outcomes and operational performance.
2. The role includes monitoring and responding to quality and safety metrics, supporting on going quality improvement work, and embedding a culture of continuous learning and improvement across the service.
3. A key element of the role will be to lead, support and line manage a team of Matrons, providing visible professional leadership and guidance. The post holder will ensure that nursing teams deliver a responsive, high-quality service that places patients and families at the centre of our care delivery. They will act as a role model for compassionate leadership, demonstrating integrity, accountability, and commitment to the Trust’s values.
