Company Overview

Our well established client are recruiting a Maintenance Engineer to join the team based at Milton Park, Abingdon. This position will support two sites, Abingdon and Bridgend (Wales), and must ensure that the plant, machinery and equipment at both companies meet agreed standards of operation, with a key focus on preventative maintenance schedules. This will necessitate visiting the Bridgend site twice a month and potentially more often if a critical fault develops that requires oversight.

You will own critical spares, tools and required servicing, and help foster a culture of continuous improvement with a positive influence on others.

Our client specialises in the precision fabrication and welding of high‑performance vessels and structures used in demanding industrial applications, from cryogenic pressure vessels to high‑tech industrial furnaces, and nuclear waste containers.


KEY TASKS

* To maintain a schedule of services for all production equipment, ensuring that relevant regulatory, warranty, legal and insurance‑related requirements are met in terms of frequency of servicing, testing and inspection while complying with the Company’s Quality Policy.
o Liaise with and, when necessary, call out agreed sub‑contractors for specialised breakdowns or repairs.
o Coordinate with other departments and educate staff on raising issues via the appropriate channels.
o Update and maintain records in line with the current requirements and keep accurate paperwork.
o Maintain internal software programmes, including future‑reference documentation.
* To ensure identified sub‑contract suppliers used to service and maintain equipment can cover the requirements and undergo the approval process.
o Identify risks to the business regarding servicing/maintaining all equipment.
o Maintain a minimum of two suppliers for each service/equipment, ensuring they are fit for purpose and responsive.
o Ensure the purchasing approval process for new contractors is carried out in liaison with Purchasing.
o Manage callouts, ensuring responses meet the agreed SLA’s negotiated by Purchasing.
* To work closely with Production teams, Facilities Coordinator, Safety Coordinator and the Engineering Department for servicing, repairs and maintenance.
o Conduct accompanied tours of the facility as required and authorised by Management.
o Maintain a record of visits, reasons, outcomes and supplier correspondence.
* Ensure fast resolution of breakdowns, safety, optimisation of machine efficiency and minimisation of waste levels. Be proactive in avoiding downtime by initiating improvements prior to failure.
o Create clear service plans to reduce risks of breakdowns or lost time.
o Support production teams by identifying key spares, implementing a document process with monthly stock checks.
* Monitor machinery performance and suggest new projects or practices to ensure continual improvement in health and safety, quality, performance and overall site functioning.
o Determine the maximum capacity of all equipment and advise management if utilisation is below full potential.
o Support production outside normal hours for critical breakdowns to be resolved on weekends or outside contracted hours, with phone support as needed.
o Understand safety rules and implement tag‑out lock‑out processes.
* Agree routine day‑to‑day maintenance tasks and priorities with the Planning Lead or Production Manager as appropriate.
* Undertake any other tasks that may be requested from time‑to‑time.


EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

* Previous experience as a multi‑skilled engineer within welding and fabrication industries is an advantage.
* Experience responding to breakdowns.
* Implementation of PPM schedules aligned with company policy.
* PLC fault diagnostics with strong electrical fault‑finding, repair, pneumatics and hydraulics background.
* Improving overall equipment efficiency and performance.
* Service and repairs to CNC cutting machines and weld robots is an advantage.

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
