We’re looking for a Trainee Upholsterer to join our trim shop at our Exeter depot, working alongside our current upholsterer to learn how to repair and maintain the interior of South West’s fleet and to become a future upholstery specialist.
What does the role involve?
1. Maintenance: Maintaining and repairing the interior of Stagecoach buses - including seats, panels, and other
fabric components
2. Material handling: Selecting, cutting, and preparing upholstery materials - moquette, leather, vinyl and foam in line with requirements
3. Machine handling: Utilizing sewing machines and handheld power tools to create and assemble upholstery pieces and fastening them securely to the vehicle
4. Workmanship: Ensuring high-quality workmanship, you’ll have a keen-eye for detail, and adherence to
specification with a creative flair to modify and create custom finishes. Ensure quality standards and acceptable output levels are met
5. Communication & collaboration: communicating and collaboration with the current upholsterer, and the wider engineering team about upholstery requirements
6. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure that activities comply with health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment
7. Workshop support: Assist with cleaning, tidying and maintenance tasks in the workshop
Desirable experience:
8. Experience in a creative field
9. Genuine interest in upholstery
10. Ability to learn new skills and techniques
11. Strong personal skills, including effective communication, self-motivation, and a focus on accuracy and quality
12. The ability to plan and prioritise work efficiently, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely and organised manner
