*Job Opportunity: Mechanical Technician / Trailer Builder (Full Time)*
*Houghton Parkhouse Ltd*, a specialist in the design and manufacture of high-spec livestock transporters, is looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to join our production team.
This role is focused on *new builds and bespoke manufacturing*, not general servicing. You will be involved in assembling complete livestock transporters and trailer systems from the ground up.
We are looking for someone practical, hands-on, and interested in *mechanical systems, hydraulics, and building equipment properly from first principles*.
*The Role:*
* Build and assemble new livestock trailers and containers from chassis stage through to completion
* Fit axles, braking systems, and pipework on O2 and O4 trailers
* Install and set up hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, and control systems
* Assemble and set up pulley and lifting deck systems within livestock containers
* Carry out hydraulic testing, pressure testing, and commissioning
* Assist with occasional maintenance of livestock containers (hydraulic oil changes, rope replacement, system checks)
* Support upkeep of factory equipment (forklifts, tugs, etc.) where required
* Work closely with fabrication and production teams to deliver a finished, working product
*What This Role Is NOT:*
* Not a general vehicle servicing role
* Not routine trailer servicing or MOT-style work
* Not roadside repair or breakdown work
This is a *build-focused role*, suited to someone who enjoys creating and assembling machinery rather than just maintaining it.
*Requirements:*
* Mechanical background (vehicle, plant, agricultural, or similar)
* Interest in hydraulics and mechanical systems
* Ability to follow instructions and work to a high standard
* Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
* Willingness to learn and develop new skills
* Team-oriented with a positive attitude
*Training & Development:*
* Opportunity to attend relevant training courses (e.g. WABCO trailer systems, if required)
* Ongoing in-house training on hydraulic and specialist livestock systems

* Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 4:45pm
* 2 × 10-minute paid breaks + 45-minute unpaid lunch
