Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and organised Head Chef to lead the kitchen operation within a care home setting in Brentwood. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering nutritious, high-quality meals for residents while maintaining excellent food safety standards and managing the kitchen team effectively.
This role requires someone who is passionate about food, understands the importance of nutrition in care environments, and can create a positive dining experience for residents.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service Plan, prepare, and cook high-quality meals in line with the homes menu and residents dietary requirements.
Ensure all meals are prepared to a high standard and presented attractively.
Support the development and regular review of menus in collaboration with the General Manager.
Ensure meals meet nutritional standards and cater to special dietary needs, allergies, and texture-modified diets where required.
Kitchen Management Oversee the day-to-day running of the kitchen and coordinate workloads across the catering team.
Supervise, support, and lead kitchen staff to ensure efficient and effective service.
Conduct staff supervisions and appraisals and support team development.
Foster a positive and professional working environment within the kitchen.
Food Safety & Compliance Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and organisation within the kitchen and food storage areas.
Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
Ensure all kitchen equipment is used safely, maintained correctly, and cleaned regularly.
Stock Control & Cost Management Manage food ordering, stock control, and storage in line with health and safety requirements.
Monitor kitchen budgets and implement effective cost control procedures.
Maintain accurate records relating to stock, food safety, and kitchen operations.
Resident Experience Ensure residents receive a positive dining experience and meals are delivered to the highest standards.
Understand and support residents nutritional needs and preferences.
Participate in initiatives such as Resident of the Day to ensure personalised service.
Communication & Administration Maintain accurate documentation and records as required.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions when required.
Communicate effectively with all staff members across departments.
Maintain confidentiality regarding both business operations and residents.
Additional Duties Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues across the care home.
Carry out any additional duties reasonably requested by the General Manager.
Candidate Requirements Previous experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a care home, healthcare, or high-volume catering environment.
Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations .
Experience managing a kitchen team and overseeing daily operations.
Understanding of special dietary requirements and nutritional needs within care settings.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
