Job Description Job Title: Practice Nurse Location: Leicester (specific practice/PCN in the Leicester City or Leicestershire area – modern GP surgery with excellent team support) Contract Type: Permanent, Salaried, Part-time Hours: 30 hours per week (flexible over 4–5 days; e.g., full days or split sessions – negotiable to support work-life balance) Salary: £38,000 – £42,000 per annum pro-rata (depending on experience; equivalent to approximately £24–£27 per hour FTE, inclusive of enhancements where applicable) About the Role We are a friendly, patient-focused GP practice in Leicester, committed to delivering high-quality primary care within our local community and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) Integrated Care System. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse to join our supportive multidisciplinary team (GPs, ANPs/ACPs, HCAs, pharmacists, and admin). This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously in a varied, rewarding environment while contributing to chronic disease management, preventive care, and same-day services. Ideal for a nurse who enjoys building long-term patient relationships and supporting practice QOF targets. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care in the treatment room, including wound care, dressings, leg ulcer management, suture/staple removal, and minor procedures. Administer vaccinations and immunisations (childhood, adult, travel, flu/Pneumococcal/COVID as per national programmes). Conduct chronic disease reviews and management (e.g., diabetes, asthma/COPD, hypertension, CHD, CKD) in line with NICE guidelines and QOF requirements. Perform cervical screening (smear tests) and women's health checks (contraception advice, coil/implant checks if trained). Offer health promotion, lifestyle advice, smoking cessation, weight management, and NHS Health Checks. Undertake ECGs, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and other diagnostic procedures as required. Support same-day/urgent care where appropriate (e.g., minor illness triage under protocol, dressings for acute presentations). Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records on clinical systems (typically SystmOne or EMIS – full training provided if needed). Participate in practice audits, significant event analysis, quality improvement projects, and QOF/clinical targets. Collaborate closely with the wider MDT, including GPs, pharmacists, and community services, to ensure holistic patient care. Contribute to infection prevention/control, stock management, and cold chain protocols. Engage in personal/professional development, clinical supervision, and NMC revalidation requirements. Person Specification – Essential Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration and active PIN. Relevant post-registration experience in primary care, community nursing, or a similar setting (minimum 1–2 years preferred). Competence in core practice nurse skills (e.g., vaccinations, wound care, chronic disease management, phlebotomy). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centred approach. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment. Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and equality/diversity. IT literate with experience of clinical systems (SystmOne/EMIS desirable but training available). Desirable Experience in cervical screening, travel health, or chronic disease reviews. Relevant qualifications (e.g., diabetes/asthma diploma, minor illness, ear care). Knowledge of QOF, enhanced services, and local Leicester/LLR pathways.
