We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse to join our supportive multidisciplinary team (GPs, ANPs/ACPs, HCAs, pharmacists, and admin). This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously in a varied, rewarding environment while contributing to chronic disease management, preventive care, and same-day services. Ideal for a nurse who enjoys building long-term patient relationships and supporting practice QOF targets. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care in the treatment room, including wound care, dressings, leg ulcer management, suture/staple removal, and minor procedures. Administer vaccinations and immunisations (childhood, adult, travel, flu/Pneumococcal/COVID as per national programmes). Conduct chronic disease reviews and management (e.g., diabetes, asthma/COPD, hypertension, CHD, CKD) in line with NICE guidelines and QOF requirements. Perform cervical screening (smear tests) and women's health checks (contraception advice, coil/implant checks if trained). Offer health promotion, lifestyle advice, smoking cessation, weight management, and NHS Health Checks. Undertake ECGs, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and other diagnostic procedures as required. Support same-day/urgent care where appropriate (e.g., minor illness triage under protocol, dressings for acute presentations). Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records on clinical systems (typically SystmOne or EMIS – full training provided if needed). Participate in practice audits, significant event analysis, quality improvement projects, and QOF/clinical targets. Collaborate closely with the wider MDT, including GPs, pharmacists, and community services, to ensure holistic patient care. Contribute to infection prevention/control, stock management, and cold chain protocols. Engage in personal/professional development, clinical supervision, and NMC revalidation requirements. Person Specification – Essential Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration and active PIN. Relevant post-registration experience in primary care, community nursing, or a similar setting (minimum 1–2 years preferred). Competence in core practice nurse skills (e.g., vaccinations, wound care, chronic disease management, phlebotomy). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centred approach. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment. Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and equality/diversity. IT literate with experience of clinical systems (SystmOne/EMIS desirable but training available). Desirable Experience in cervical screening, travel health, or chronic disease reviews. Relevant qualifications (e.g., diabetes/asthma diploma, minor illness, ear care). Knowledge of QOF, enhanced services, and local Leicester/LLR pathways. Interest in mentoring/supporting HCAs or student nurses. What We Offer Competitive salary (£38,000–£42,000 pro-rata) with potential for performance-related increments. NHS pension scheme eligibility (if qualifying). 25–30 days annual leave pro-rata bank holidays. Supportive team environment with regular clinical meetings and peer support. Opportunities for professional development, funded training (e.g., cervical screening, chronic disease courses), and study leave. Modern surgery facilities with free parking/on-site amenities. Contribution to a forward-thinking practice/PCN focused on workforce wellbeing and patient access.
