Introduction:
Young Tower Hamlets is our new youth service that has been created to provide a diverse programme of free opportunities and support for young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with SEND) across the borough.
We are looking for passionate individuals with a keen interest to work with and inspire young people, making a difference in their life, supporting them to have voice & influence on services and to engage in positive activities within a universal open access youth setting.
You will be a part of a team that provides year-round safe spaces across the borough, bringing a variety of different methods and skills that aid in planning, organising and delivering universal and targeted youth activities and programmes.
You will support/ manage in the planning and delivery of projects that focus on issues like health, bullying, transitions, sexuality/ gender, crime, gangs, or drugs including community and social events for the young people, help design and organise activity programmes that engage young people into informal educational programs and youth recreational activities such as sports, arts and drama whilst assessing young people’s health, social and emotional requirements.

Working environment:
You will be required to work from any Tower Hamlets council or ‘Other’ delivery sites within the borough as required for service delivery but will have a primary base to work from. Your working environment may be physically and emotionally demanding and outdoors some of the time.
Note: roles are in person / face to face direct delivery working with young people in a Universal Youth Work settings across Tower Hamlets and will involve indoor / outdoor including some weekend working, prior notice will be provided.
Qualifications & Experience: The following will be considered.
* You’ll need a minimum of a Level 3 NVQ JNC recognised Youth Support Worker qualification
* In addition, candidates with experience and qualifications of working with vulnerable young people i.e. young carers, those with SEND and or can speak Bengali / Somali (Desirable) are encouraged to apply.
* Applications from candidates currently undertaking a formal qualification to work with young people.
* Applicants currently in Full Time/Part Time education will be considered for part time roles.
* Applications from candidates with a min of 2 years’ experience of working with young people
Contractual hours of work:
We are currently looking for staff who can work flexibly to meet our service delivery needs as we open new Youth Centres. The Senior Youth Worker role is full-time (35 hours per week).
CANDIDATES MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
* Enhanced DBS check (including barred lists)
* Willingness to be flexible and travel in and around the borough.
Summary of Senior Youth Worker role:
* Plan and run youth projects across the borough to offer activities that support learning and development for young people aged 11 to 25, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
* Responsible for ensuring through early planning that a varied offer of fun youth activities and programmes are consistently available for the cohort including, but not limited to, accredited programmes, one-to-one work, group work, volunteering.
* Directly line manage staff allocated to the designated projects ensuring that, using the Council’s performance development and review scheme, they are regularly supervised, subject to performance monitoring, and that appropriate development and training opportunities are identified for them and addressed.
* Responsible to undertake and develop partnership work with key (internal & external) stakeholder organisations and partners i.e., VCS groups, schools, CFC’s, Parks for the development of the project and its users.
* Responsible for meeting all apportioned performance targets including those relating inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact; updating data onto the service MIS database and preparing various reports as and when required to verify and evidence delivery and the quality of work being undertaken.
* To undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade as determined by the manager and work flexibly as and when required to deliver youth activities and programmes from different designated youth and partner buildings (if required), and during the evenings, weekends, term time and the holiday seasons.
