Role Summary

The General Portering Department at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Wonford requires an enthusiastic, motivated person who is passionate about providing an excellent patient care experience to join our Portering Leadership Team, to lead a team of up to 10 porters. This is a demanding role and requires regular 12-hour shifts, including nights, bank holidays, and weekends, for which enhancements will be paid. The successful candidate will be:

* Responsible for the supervision of staff, including their personal development, appraisals, and health and safety.
* Ensure regular, ongoing, and effective statutory training for all staff to maximize their full potential.
* Liaise with all staff to ensure effective and meaningful communication.
* Lead and contribute to effective staff meetings.
* Ensure that Trust Health & Safety policies are adhered to and that all staff are aware of their responsibilities.
* Ensure compliance with Trust policies and follow through on all administrative requirements.

* Work closely with the Portering Operations Manager, Site Practitioners, and On-Call teams out of hours, weekends, and normal office hours to prioritize operational requirements.
* Assist the Portering Operations Manager in managing portering duties and staff performance across the Trust.
* Undertake a rotary shift pattern covering 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of portering services.
* Work alongside the Portering Operations Manager to assess operational needs and assign staff accordingly.
* Contribute to delivering a quality service to patients, staff, and visitors in line with the Trust’s values.
* Provide a flexible, efficient, and quality service, extending care and consideration to all.
* Receive work requests via telephone and the Trust My Care system, taking prompt and appropriate action.
* Supervise and prioritize work, directing staff via radio, telephone, and the My Care system to ensure optimal resource use.
* Ensure duties carried out by Dispatchers/Porters are completed accurately and timely.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, including 12-hour shifts, nights, days, weekends, and bank holidays, with allowances paid.

Interview Date: Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th July 2025.

Pay: The salary reflects the Agenda for Change 2025/6 rates, including a 3.6% pay award to be implemented later this year. If you join before this, the pay will be backdated to your start date. Until then, remuneration is based on 2024/5 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2024/25 | NHS Employers).
