Trust Grade ST3+ Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery

This post is intended to provide middle grade experience for those seeking a career in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
Candidates must have completed MRCS, MBBS or equivalent and had Foundation experience or equivalent.
Preference will be given to candidates who have basic training in surgery in general, have advanced experience in Orthopaedics and have MRCS, MCh or MS from a reputable institute.
There will be an opportunity to attend teaching alongside the Specialist Registrars in the Leicester training programme within the limits of service commitments.
While every support will be given to candidates wishing to sit the FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) examination towards the end of the rotation, this cannot be presumed. There is an annual review process when candidates will be given advice on their progress and career progression.
Main duties of the job
This post offers ample opportunity for training and participation in operating lists with induction and career mentoring by Consultants. Your timetable will include theatre time, clinics, ward rounds and on call commitments as well as protected time for research and admin. The department is committed to education.
Job responsibilities
This post is not recognised for training and therefore does not have educational and training approval from the Postgraduate Dean or Royal College. However, in all other respects the post holder will have identical terms and conditions of service to the departments doctors in training working at this level. Clinical audit experience and ample research opportunities will be available for individuals wishing to progress in their career. Previous trust grade doctors have successfully published papers, won deanery prizes and have gone on to become trainees in their respective fields of interest.

The post is designed to improve clinical confidence, decision making and higher order thinking. It is ideal for preparation for T&O ST3 National Selection.
