Waste Minimisation And Sustainability Manager - The Role
We have a great opportunity for a Waste Minimisation and Sustainability Manager to join our Operations service, helping to tackle climate change and support residents and local businesses in waste minimisation, recycling, and circular economy initiatives.
The recent legislative and policy changes in waste and recycling make this an exciting time to join the team, as they will be key to implementing these over the coming years.
You will need to be flexible with working hours, which could occasionally start as early as 6:30 am when liaising with refuse and recycling collection crews. Occasional evening and weekend work may also be required for meetings, talks, and events.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the Waste Minimisation and Sustainability team, including 1:1s, training, development, coaching, and mentoring.
* Promote and deliver the service efficiently, ensuring the council's recycling targets are met and maintained.
* Manage and allocate work, ensuring high-quality, responsive services that embrace best practices.
* Lead waste research and data analysis, presenting trends, issues, and recommendations to senior managers to inform policy and education initiatives.
* Create and deliver ongoing projects based on research and data, to educate residents on waste minimisation and recycling.
Person Specification
* Relevant qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Waste Management, or equivalent, or willingness to work towards one.
* Experience in managing people and establishing credibility at all levels.
* Genuine commitment to environmental issues, climate change mitigation, and waste prevention, preferably with relevant qualifications.
* Experience in the waste industry, with knowledge of research and data analysis.
* Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and IT skills, including system development.
* Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes.
