Job Title: Protection and Control Engineer
Location : Glasgow or Stafford
Summary:
Protection & Control Engineer within Grid Automation – Secondary Systems, responsible for delivering end-to-end protection and control engineering solutions for high-voltage transmission substations. The role focuses on the design, configuration, and integration of protection schemes and substation automation systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and standards-compliant operation of the transmission network.
Working in a hybrid setup (Glasgow or Stafford), the engineer will support both project delivery and technical execution across multiple stages, including detailed design, relay integration, testing, and commissioning. The position involves close collaboration with customers and internal engineering teams to implement grid automation solutions, typically within complex utility-scale environments.
Scope:
Protection & control design for HV transmission substations
Development of protection schemes and control system designs
Integration of protection relays into Substation Automation Systems (SAS)
Support IEC 61850-based automation and grid communication systems
Engineering support through design, testing, and commissioning stages
Work within Grid Automation Secondary Systems team
Requirements:
Strong Protection & Control engineering background in transmission/grid environments
Experience with HV substation protection schemes and control systems
Hands-on knowledge of protection relays and SAS integration
Experience in utility or T&D projects
Key Skills:
HV protection schemes (line, transformer, busbar, feeder)
Relay configuration and testing
IEC 61850 / substation automation
Fault analysis and protection coordination
Strong delivery in multi-disciplinary grid projects
