Head of Finance: Ashtead Hospital
Reporting to: Hospital Director (professionally accountable to the Commercial Accountant)
Location: Site-based, Ashtead Hospital - The Warren, KT212SB
About the role
We are seeking a Head of Finance to act as the senior finance lead on site, with overarching responsibility for all financial matters—strategic, operational and contractual. As a key member of the Hospital Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will provide analysis and oversight of financial performance and commercial strategy, delivering timely and accurate financial information to support effective decision-making.
You will develop, monitor and own the operating budget, ensuring financial targets are met and partnering with the Hospital Director to agree recovery plans where required. You will work closely with colleagues across the hospital to analyse financial KPIs, challenge assumptions and provide guidance to enable growth plans, while maintaining a robust control environment through strong compliance with policies and procedures. You will also contribute ad-hoc analysis and insights for Cluster, Corporate, UK and Global requirements.
Key responsibilities:
• Lead operational and strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting cycles alongside the Senior Leadership Team.
• Submit weekly forecasts, clearly highlighting risks, opportunities and sensitivities.
• Identify opportunities to enhance revenue and/or minimise cost to drive efficiency and increased profitability.
• Act as an active member of the Hospital SLT, contributing beyond finance (including participation in on-call as required).
• Build capability and resilience within the finance team through effective recruitment, leadership, development and succession planning, maintaining a positive culture.
• Deliver accurate monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reports and other required reporting in line with company timelines and guidelines.
• Ensure the hospital complies with relevant statutory accounting requirements through timely delivery of required reports.
• Maintain a robust financial control environment, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
What we’re looking for:
• Proven senior finance leadership experience, with accountability for budgeting, forecasting and performance management.
• Strong commercial mindset with the ability to interpret data, provide insight and influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience producing accurate monthly management accounts, reconciliations and board-level reporting to tight deadlines.
• Demonstrable ability to identify and deliver revenue improvement and cost optimisation opportunities.
• Strong understanding of financial governance, controls and compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
• Confident people leader with experience developing high-performing teams and positive culture.
• Highly organised, detail-focused and able to balance operational delivery with strategic thinking.
