An interesting and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Registration Service as the Superintendent Registrar.

The Superintendent Registrar is a statutory post in accordance with Regulation and under the general direction of the Registrar General. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the effective management of the Registration Service in the delivery of its statutory functions

The Service is responsible for the statutory registration of life events, such as births, death, marriages and civil partnerships; as well as associated roles, such as conducting Citizenship ceremonies and assisting with Family History bookings.

The service deals with customers at life defining and emotional moments in their lives, so being able to both personally provide this service, and ensure the staff under your management provide this service in a professional, yet sensitive manner is essential.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake training and / or maintain competence in the range of duties and responsibilities associated with the post.

Personal responsibility of the post holder will include people management of fixed, casual and emergency staff (including recruitment and training), budget management, receiving and banking fees, daily reconciliation of fees and certificate stock, the secure handling and maintenance/regular audits of such stock, reporting KPIs and other returns to both the General Registrar Office and the local authority.

Undertaking face to face and telephone registration appointments, booking notice of Marriage / Civil Partnership appointments and conducting / Registering Marriage / Civil Partnership and Citizenship Ceremonies will be both carried out by the successful applicant, and managed within the service; this includes devising rota for out of hours and on-call service provision.

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants with a high degree of self-motivation, commitment and attention to detail. Communication skills, sensitivity, ICT and numeracy skills are fundamental to the post. The successful applicant must be able to work effectively and productively as part of a team and on their own initiative when required. Commitment to modernisation of services and continuous improvement is key within the local authority, and the successful applicant will be involved in driving the service forward.

Out of hours and weekend working is a requirement of the Service and this post; and is arranged on a rota basis.
