Consultant Psychiatrist - CMHT4 Lewisham

The closing date is 08 June 2026

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) are looking for a dynamic, forward‑thinking, enthusiastic, full‑time, substantive Consultant Psychiatrists to lead a Community Mental Health team in the London Borough of Lewisham.

The Community Mental Health Service provides long‑term treatments for patients with complex and enduring mental health problems. The team accepts patients with all diagnoses, ensuring a variety of presentations. The majority of patients will be managed under the Care Programme Approach. CMHT Neighbourhood 4’s total caseload is 263, distributed by GP sectors.

As the consultant you will undertake CPA reviews for your caseload, arrange follow‑up appointments as necessary, and serve as the Responsible Clinician for any section 17A Mental Health Act (1983/2007) community treatment orders. You will also liaise with GPs and other stakeholders, attend team governance meetings, and contribute to service development and quality improvement work.

The post holder is expected to provide clinical cover for other Lewisham borough consultants and vice‑versa.

For more details regarding the post, please refer to the attached JD.

Main duties of the job

The consultant provides psychiatric leadership, acts as Approved Clinician to the Community Mental Health Team N4, and supports the Team Leader and Clinical Service Lead.

Close liaison with primary care is key. You will work directly with GPs and other stakeholders, supported by lead clinician Dr Dominic Cottrell and the AMD for Lewisham, Dr Hugh Williams.

As the senior clinician for one GP sector, you will work alongside another consultant psychiatrist in the Neighbourhood, with opportunities for support, cross‑cover, and discussion of challenging cases. Co‑location of teams facilitates working alongside several psychiatrists.
