Role Purpose

The Senior Quantity Surveyor with substation experience supports the commercial delivery of high voltage (HV) projects, with a focus on substations, switchgear installations, and cable works. The role involves cost control, contract administration, valuation and project financial management to ensure cost-effective project execution, based in Inverurie.


Senior Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities

In conjunction with the project team, you will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project including:

* Budgeting, reporting, development of BOQs and profit plans.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to manage interim commercial meetings with the client and internal project team.
* Provide detailed commercial reporting to the Project Manager on the status of the project.
* Manage subcontractor accounts, interim valuations and final accounts.
* Ensure payment certificates are processed and payments are made in line with agreed subcontract and procurement terms.
* Administer contract obligations and meet additional client requirements.
* Issue interim and final accounts and progress applications in line with project and contract requirements.
* Ensure monthly applications include accurate remeasures, site changes, dayworks and applicable contract claims.
* Identify cost escalations relating to labour or materials where appropriate.
* Identify potential commercial risks and report these to senior management.
* Maintain close collaboration with the planning engineer to ensure accuracy of progress reporting.
* Cost and agree daily work changes including subcontractor remeasurement, site dayworks and change orders.
* Maintain accurate records and provide detailed backup for commercial tracking and costing.
* Work on your own initiative and prioritise tasks effectively.
* Negotiate with clients or their representatives where required.
* Demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment in all duties.
* Ensure all information is handled securely and in line with company information security policies.


Requirements

* 3rd level qualification in Construction Economics / Quantity Surveying (preferred).
* Technical background as an Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, Electrical Engineer or similar would be advantageous but not essential.
* 5+ years’ experience in a similar role working on electrical projects exceeding £3M in value.
* Previous project or work placement experience beneficial.
* Strong Excel skills.
* Knowledge of contract conditions and their application.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong record keeping and administrative capabilities.
* Experience working with NEC3 contracts.


Desired Competencies

* Strong understanding of contract obligations and client commitments.
* Ability to prepare interim and final claims in accordance with contractual requirements.
* Ensure claims accurately reflect all work undertaken including dayworks, unit rate work and contract work.
* Ability to identify and manage cost escalations where relevant.
