On Track West Yarner
Support, nurture, inspire, empower
On Track West Yarner is an independent special school for pupils aged 7–16, offering small-group, relationship-led provision for young people with social, emotional and communication needs. We focus on creating a safe, supportive environment where pupils can overcome barriers and thrive.
The role
We are seeking a Family Support Worker & Attendance Officer to play a key role in supporting pupils and families at On Track West Yarner.
Working closely with the Head Teacher and wider pastoral team, you will help remove barriers to attendance, behaviour and engagement, building strong relationships with pupils, families and external partners to ensure young people feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about inclusion, attendance and improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
Key responsibilities:
1. Lead strategies to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement.
2. Monitor attendance data and identify pupils requiring targeted support.
3. Work directly with pupils and families, including home visits and meetings.
4. Support reintegration for pupils returning from absence or disengagement.
5. Act as a link between home, school and external agencies.
6. Contribute to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
7. Maintain accurate records and reports to support school improvement
About you
We are looking for a committed professional who is motivated to make a real difference to the lives of young people and their families. You will be confident building trusting relationships and supporting pupils who may face barriers to attendance, engagement, and wellbeing.
Key attributes:
8. Empathetic, resilient, and solution-focused, with the ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
9. Has experience working with children, young people, and families who may require additional support.
10. Is confident working directly with parents and carers, including through meetings and home visits.
11. Understands the importance of attendance, inclusion, and early intervention in improving outcomes.
12. Can work independently, manage a varied caseload, and prioritise effectively.
13. Can contribute positively to a multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.
14. Has a strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusive practice.
15. Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and clear boundaries at all times.
Experience working with pupils with SEMH or additional needs, and in a pastoral, family support, or attendance-focused role, is highly desirable.
You will also need a full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and the flexibility to work across school, home and community settings, with occasional varied hours to meet the needs of pupils and families.
Additional duties
The successful candidate may, where required, undertake duties as an Education Support Worker alongside the responsibilities outlined above. This may include both timetabled and short-term cover to support continuity of provision for pupils.
