Overview
Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship role at Surrey and Sussex Police. A demanding and diverse policing career that includes tackling crime, helping communities, engaging and educating young people, and supporting those in need. You will work toward a Degree in Professional Policing Practice over three years.
The Role
You will be part of our policing family, dedicated to keeping communities safe and feeling safe, identifying and protecting vulnerable people, and preventing and responding to harm. The apprenticeship offers a full time salary starting at £31,164 plus £3,000 South East Allowance, with progression toward a professional policing qualification.
Key Responsibilities
* Support crime reduction and community safety initiatives.
* Engage with the public, educate communities, and provide assistance to those in need.
* Work with colleagues to respond to incidents and protect vulnerable people.
Role Requirements
* Be aged 17 years or over on the day you submit your application; you must be 18 or over to start in post.
* Have lived in the UK for 3 continuous years immediately prior to application.
* Have leave to enter, or leave to remain in the UK for an indefinite period.
* Hold a current full UK manual driving licence by the time of appointment.
* Not be a member of (or previously a member of) the British National Party or any other proscribed terrorist organisations or groups.
* Not have tattoos that cause offence.
* Not have serious motoring offences or 6 or more points on your licence.
* Meet the qualification criteria outlined below.
Skills & Experience / Qualifications
* Have GCSE Maths and English at grade A*-C/9-4 or an educational equivalent to Level 2. Provide copies of qualifications on the application form.
* Have achieved one A Level grade A*-C or equivalent Level 3 AND one A Level grade A*-E or AS level in a different subject, or equivalent Level 3. Minimum 48 UCAS points when combined. Check UCAS tariff calculator for points.
* Provide copies of qualifications with the application form. Applicants in their final year may apply with predicted grades and must supply results in August.
* Level 3 qualifications accepted include BTEC; the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing is accepted.
Alternative pathways include relevant work experience evaluated against a Level 3 framework; applicants may be required to complete assessments and tests, including written and online assessments, with a panel decision.
* Current serving (or recently left within 18 months) Special Constable or PCSO with Independent Patrol may be considered in lieu of Level 3 qualifications, subject to panel assessment.
* Experience in other policing roles may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with references.

Stage Overview
Stage 1: Application Form and Eligibility Checks; Stage 2: National Sift; Stage 3: National Assessment Centre; Stage 4: Competency Based Interview; Stage 5: Pre-employment checks (references, vetting, medical, biometric vetting, and fitness testing). Start dates are anticipated from June 2026 onwards and are not guaranteed. The first 16 weeks of training restrict annual leave.
