Estates and Health & Safety Manager (North)
Join us in a practical, hands‑on leadership role managing estates maintenance and ensuring Health and Safety and regulatory compliance across the College’s diverse, multi‑campus estate. You’ll lead a team responsible for day‑to‑day building and facilities upkeep, statutory inspections, and the safe operation of College premises. This includes managing contractors, delivering minor works, and supporting larger capital projects, with a strong focus on Health and Safety, compliance, and the smooth running of physical estate services.
The post will be situated at North Shropshire College in Oswestry, serving Walford College at Baschurch and The Gateway Adult and Community Learning Centre at Shrewsbury. There will also be a requirement to travel to the wider College sites in Ludlow and Herefordshire.
Main Responsibilities:
* Manage delivery of hard and soft facilities services across a diverse multi‑campus estate, including modern and listed buildings, classrooms, vocational workshops, kitchens, sports facilities, equestrian and animal management facilities, agricultural buildings and more.
* Manage estates staff, operations, and lead minor projects.
* Support major projects, capital works, and develop planned maintenance programmes.
* Lead in Health and Safety compliance, including statutory inspections and risk assessments.
* Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain technical documentation, and implement technology advancements.
Person Specification:
* If you are qualified with GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths and have obtained IOSH Managing Safely or have a willingness to work towards NEBOSH General Certificate then we’d be delighted to hear from you. This role requires an understanding of statutory estates compliance and operational H&S requirements, as well as experience in estates management including hard and soft facilities services and proven experience in managing contractors and teams.
* Strong written communication skills and excellent record‑keeping abilities are essential, as is proficiency in IT, including relevant software and systems.
* The post holder will be required to travel and work across multiple sites, with occasional flexibility in hours to meet the needs of the college, such as covering sick leave or supporting events. A valid driving license is also essential.
