The Mechanical Supervisor is a key operational role within Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of mechanical systems across the estate. Reporting to the Mechanical Manager, the postholder will manage and allocate work for the mechanical maintenance team, oversee performance, conduct appraisals, and ensure appropriate staff development and progression. The role ensures all planned and reactive works are carried out in line with statutory requirements, NHS HTM standards, and Trust policies.


Responsibilities

* Lead the strategic development and implementation of compliance strategies for hard FM services across multiple Trust departments, ensuring ongoing alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory changes.
* Ensure statutory and regulatory requirements are integrated into daily operational activities and maintenance tasks.
* Deliver challenging audit outcomes to teams, requiring advanced persuasive and motivational skills to overcome opposition and ensure implementation of corrective measures.
* Maintain accurate compliance records and monitoring systems to support audit readiness and reporting.
* Lead the development and implementation of Trust-wide Safe Systems of Work, formulating and adjusting risk management strategies that impact multiple departments and service areas.
* Lead negotiations and resolve disputes with contractors and senior stakeholders, often in highly contentious situations where agreement is critical to service continuity.
* Communicate highly sensitive compliance failures and remedial actions to executive leadership and regulatory bodies, requiring advanced persuasive and reassurance skills in potentially hostile or emotive environments.
* Present highly complex and contentious compliance challenges to multidisciplinary teams, requiring developed motivational and empathic skills to secure cooperation and drive urgent corrective action.
* Plan and organise resource allocation and budget management for mechanical services across multiple departments, regularly reviewing and adjusting strategies to optimise efficiency and support Trust-wide objectives.


Qualifications

A solid technical background in mechanical engineering is required, with experience supporting the management of high-risk systems and promoting Safe Systems of Work.


Employment Terms

Employment is subject to a six-month probation. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
