Nurture and Behaviour Support Mentor - Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:00
Salary: £13.80 - £15 per hour
Contract: Ongoing temporary with potential for permanent placement

Are you a calm, caring, and dedicated individual who believes every child deserves the chance to succeed? We're seeking a Nurture and Behaviour Support Mentor to join a supportive and inclusive specialist school near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

In this fulfilling role, you'll work alongside teachers and therapists to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other additional learning challenges. Your role will be to help children feel safe, valued, and motivated, both in the classroom and beyond, enabling them to reach their full potential.

About the Role - Nurture and Behaviour Support Mentor

As part of a nurturing and trauma-informed team, you'll play a vital role in supporting students during classroom lessons, small group work, and one-to-one sessions. You'll bring calm, structure, and encouragement to help pupils engage with learning, manage emotions, and celebrate progress no matter how small.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide hands-on support in the classroom, helping students access learning activities alongside the Class Teacher.
* Build positive, trusting relationships that make every pupil feel safe, respected, and understood.
* Use trauma-informed and positive behaviour support strategies to help students regulate emotions and develop resilience.
* Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored lessons and interventions that meet individual learning needs.
* Encourage independence and social interaction through structured and creative learning opportunities.
* Respond calmly to challenging behaviour, using patience, empathy, and de-escalation techniques.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider staff team to create a consistent and supportive learning environment.


What We’re Looking For

* GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or equivalent) essential.
* Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD, or additional needs.
* A patient, understanding, and adaptable approach to learning support.
* Knowledge of trauma-informed and positive behaviour strategies.
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
* Must be commutable to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
