We now have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Town Planner to join our award-winning in-house team, the largest dedicated professional town planning team in the NHS, supporting the development and improvement of the NHS estate across England. About the Role As an Associate Town Planner, you'll play a key role in shaping planning outcomes across the wider NHS estate including NHSPS' property portfolio of over 3,000 properties across England, spanning GP surgeries, listed buildings and major new healthcare developments. This is a strategic planning role with a strong focus on infrastructure planning, planning policy, developer contributions, and stakeholder engagement. You will help shape responses to local, regional and national planning consultations, support infrastructure planning and funding work to address the impact of growth on health services and contribute to Infrastructure Delivery Plans and other evidence-based planning work that supports the future of healthcare provision. This is a unique opportunity to apply your planning expertise to nationally significant challenges at the intersection of health, infrastructure and place, while helping deliver healthier communities and better public outcomes. Who You Are You're a planning professional with experience in strategic planning, infrastructure planning, planning policy or related public or private sector planning work. You are comfortable working across multiple complex projects, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, and translating technical planning issues into clear, practical advice. You bring sound judgement, a collaborative approach, and a genuine interest in how planning can support better places, public services and long-term community outcomes. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and respond to planning policy and consultation activity at local, regional, and national levels Lead on developer contribution workstreams (S106/CIL) across several local NHS commissioning areas Contribute to Infrastructure Delivery Plans, evidence base documents and other planning studies that support healthcare provision and growth planning Provide expert planning advice across the NHS estate by acting as a trusted advisor on strategic planning, infrastructure and built environment matters Build effective relationships with local authorities, NHS organisations, government bodies and other key stakeholders Support strategic programmes focused on healthy placemaking, healthcare provision and community wellbeing Prepare reports, presentations, and policy updates Support collaborative working and the ongoing development of team capability What We're Looking For MRTPI or MRICS qualified (or equivalent experience) Significant relevant post-qualification experience Experience in consultancy, local government, the public sector, or a similarly complex planning environment Strong background in planning policy, infrastructure planning, developer contributions, evidence base preparation, strategic planning, or development management Experience preparing or contributing to consultation responses, policy documents, or infrastructure-related planning studies Excellent stakeholder engagement, project management, and communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and provide clear, strategic planning advice Where you'll be This is a permanent role, offering hybrid working, with a requirement to attend the London office in Canary Wharf (approximately 1-2 days per week). The salary starts from £65,000 per year, plus up to 10% performance-based bonus eligibility.
