Our In-Patient Unit (IPU) is for adults over the age of 18 who are living with a terminal or life-limiting illness. We are looking for volunteer interpreters who will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between healthcare providers, patients, and their families when language barriers exist. We may also require volunteers to accompany clinical staff in the community settings, including clinics or patients homes to support effective communication. Key Responsibilities Working with patients, families and our IPU clinical team to understand and facilitate communication when language barriers exist. You may be required to take part in difficult conversations about end of life topics with the support of clinical staff. Skills, Qualities and Experience Fluency in English and one other language. We are particularly looking for volunteers with fluency in Polish. Warm and caring nature with a desire to help others manage day to day living. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with a diverse group of patients and colleagues. Understand the need to take particular precautions in working alongside patients with palliative care needs and at the end of life. Maturity and self-awareness regarding the emotional impact of working with death and dying Understand the importance of confidentiality.
