The Warwickshire Energy and Environment team is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Environmental and Energy Officer for a full-time, permanent position. The role offers a competitive salary of £30,060-£32,654 and is based at Shire Hall, Warwick.
About The Role
As an Environmental and Energy Officer, you will ensure Warwickshire County Council maintains and improves its environmental management system to meet statutory, regulatory, and compliance standards. You will help reduce the Council’s environmental footprint, aligning activities with sustainability goals and legal requirements. This is an opportunity to promote best practices in environmental sustainability, energy management, and carbon reduction, working with internal teams, external stakeholders, and partner organizations to support climate change mitigation, resource efficiency, and sustainable development across Warwickshire.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and monitor the environmental management system (EMS) for compliance with legislation.
* Provide advice on environmental policies, sustainability initiatives, and energy efficiency to Council departments and stakeholders.
* Conduct environmental audits and risk assessments, identifying improvements and ensuring corrective actions.
* Support climate change and carbon reduction strategies to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
* Monitor energy usage, waste management, and resource consumption, recommending efficiency improvements.
* Stay informed on emerging environmental and energy policies and regulations.
* Collaborate with local authorities, community groups, and businesses to promote sustainable practices.
* Assist in preparing reports, funding applications, and policy documents related to environmental sustainability.
About You
* Passionate and proactive environmental professional with a strong understanding of legislation, compliance, and sustainability best practices.
* Experience in environmental management, energy efficiency, or sustainability within public or private sectors.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with data interpretation capabilities.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental science, sustainability, energy management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
