Clinical Psychologist within Homeless Services

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist with enthusiasm and interest in working with the homeless population in Manchester to join a friendly and supportive mental health multidisciplinary team.

The post is 7 permanent sessions; there is a possibility of a further 2 sessions to be confirmed.

This post offers a varied and positive opportunity for a qualified Clinical Psychologist to work in a team which has both direct work and indirect ways of working.

The postholder will primarily support the work of the Manchester Mental Health Homeless Team and will contribute to the Homeless Hub-wide Psychology initiatives.

Working within a trauma informed approach, we offer psychological consultation, training and reflective practice to mental health staff in the homeless hub and homelessness workers in partner organisations across the Greater Manchester area. Psychological assessments and interventions with services users is undertaken as appropriate and we aim to provide a flexible and accessible service that recognises the additional needs of the homeless population. Multi-disciplinary and multi-agency collaborative working are at the foundation of our work.

Main duties of the job

• To deliver highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy to clients with complex, severe and longstanding mental health difficulties, which frequently involve high risk behaviour, risk of suicide and self-harm. Clients who are referred to the Service have often either failed to engage with, or benefit from, other mental health services
• To contribute to the service delivery and target objectives/priorities of the Homeless Hub plans
• To manage a highly complex clinical caseload
• To carry out specialised risk assessments and agree risk management plans with individual clients, and to provide advice on aspects of risk formulation and management to other clinicians and services
• To provide clinical supervision, training and team reflective practice to mental health and non-mental health workers.
• To be responsible for the clinical supervision and teaching of trainees
• To engage in peer supervision and peer consultation with clinical colleagues within the service
• To provide clinical consultations for clinicians, including therapists in training, when difficult and challenging issues of assessment, treatment and risk management arise.

8. Undergraduate degree in Psychology

The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
