Salary Range: £130 - £170 per day (depending on experience)

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a wonderful independent SEND school in Maidstone, specialising in supporting students with Down’s syndrome and a range of additional learning needs. The school is well known for its caring ethos, creative curriculum, and commitment to helping every learner reach their full potential — both academically and personally.
The school are looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team immediately. This is a long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As an HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting the learning and development of students with additional needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs
Leading small group interventions and one-to-one sessions to reinforce key skills and promote independence
Creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
Assisting with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources
Supporting students with personal care needs, where required (training provided if needed)
Promoting communication, social interaction, and confidence-building through creative learning activities
Liaising with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent support and progress
Contributing to pupil progress reports and supporting with classroom assessments
The successful HLTA will have:
HLTA status (or equivalent qualification/experience)
Experience supporting students with SEND, ideally those with Down’s syndrome
A proactive, positive, and patient approach to learning
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping every student thrive
