The role

Flexible working considered – 36 days annual leave – Specialist trauma-informed service – Opportunities to develop specialist interests

At Gateway Psychology, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, connected and understood.

We are a specialist provider of psychological services supporting children, young people and families across adoption, fostering, kinship care, residential care, education and wider children's services. Much of our work focuses on children who have experienced trauma, adversity, disrupted attachments and other complex life experiences.

We are seeking a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist (Band 8a equivalent) to join our multidisciplinary team of Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists and Assistant Psychologists.

This is an opportunity to undertake genuinely varied and rewarding work within a supportive, trauma-informed organisation that values clinical excellence, professional autonomy and innovation.

Why join Gateway Psychology?

We know that experienced psychologists are looking for more than just another clinical role.

At Gateway Psychology, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work creatively and flexibly with children, young people and families
  • Deliver meaningful interventions that create lasting change
  • Influence the wider systems around children through consultation, training and support
  • Develop specialist interests and areas of expertise
  • Contribute to service development and innovation
  • Shape your role in line with your skills, interests and professional goals
  • Work alongside experienced and supportive colleagues who genuinely care about the children and families we support

We value the unique strengths each clinician brings and actively encourage colleagues to pursue areas of practice that inspire them.

About the role

This is a varied role combining direct clinical work, consultation, training, supervision and service development activities.

You will hold a specialist caseload of children, young people and families, undertaking assessments, formulation and therapeutic intervention. You will also work closely with the adults and professionals around children, recognising that meaningful change often happens when we support the wider system as well as the child themselves.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Specialist psychological assessments and formulation
  • Direct therapeutic work with children, young people and families
  • Consultation with parents, carers and professionals
  • Delivery of training and workshops
  • Clinical supervision of assistant psychologists, trainees and less experienced colleagues
  • Development of specialist resources and therapeutic approaches
  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency networks

Depending on your interests and experience, there may also be opportunities to become involved in neurodevelopmental assessments and other specialist areas of practice.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for a compassionate, skilled and reflective psychologist who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families.

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
  • HCPC registration (or immediate eligibility to register)
  • Experience working with children, young people and families
  • Strong assessment, formulation and therapeutic skills
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and relationship-based practice
  • Experience working within adoption, fostering, kinship care or residential care settings
  • Experience supporting children who have experienced developmental trauma and attachment difficulties
  • Training in approaches such as DDP, Theraplay, EMDR, BUSS or other trauma-informed interventions
  • Experience providing consultation, supervision or training
  • Interest in service development and innovation

What we offer

  • Salary of £57,500 - £64,750 (depending on experience)
  • 36 days annual leave
  • Flexible and part-time working opportunities
  • Medical cash plan
  • Life assurance and income protection cover
  • Purpose-built therapeutic facilities designed specifically for children and young people
  • High-quality training and professional development opportunities
  • Supportive multidisciplinary team environment
  • Opportunities to develop specialist interests and shape your role

Gateway Psychology is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and supported. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of age, disability, sex, gender identity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity.

If you're looking for a role where you can combine high-quality clinical practice with meaningful impact, professional autonomy and opportunities for growth, we'd love to hear from you.
