Salary : up to £200k FTE (£80k pro rata) – dependant on grade/experience
Description:
The Medical Advisor is central to supporting the Donor Request Management team and potential stem cell donors, ensuring their journey is as seamless and positive as possible. Acting as the primary specialist and advisor in the UK, the role is complemented by guidance from physicians in other countries and the current UK medical advisor.

15hrs pw, ideally with a full day on Mon – with flexibility across Tue-Fri.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, your key responsibilities are:
* Assess donor medical suitability and make independent clinical decisions on whether to proceed
* Review follow-up reports and laboratory results, advising the team on appropriate next steps
* Respond to donor-specific clinical questions regarding stem cell collection methods, use of G-CSF, or other relevant concerns
* Approve repeat donations, atypical transplant centre requests, and additional donor testin
* Provide input into the acute management of any donor-related complications
* Communicate positive or abnormal test results to donors by phone, during or outside of regular hours
Requirements:
To be eligible for this role, you must have:
* Medical qualification with full GMC registration; working as a consultant or experiences specialty doctor.
* Proven experience in human histocompatibility, haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and/or cellular therapies
* Solid understanding of conditions treatable by stem cell transplantation, including awareness of alternative treatments and the challenges involved in donor matching
* Knowledge of HLA antigens, alleles, and haplotypes, along with familiarity with the operational protocols of transplant centres, donor services, collection centres, and international registries
