We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Biomedical Scientist to join the Department of Microbiology.
HCPC registration is an essential requirement.
Our modern, well-equipped department processes approximately 600,000 specimens annually, providing a comprehensive clinical microbiology service. The department utilizes various platforms such as BACTEC FX, Enteric-Bio, Phoenix M50 & Phoenix AP, Autoplak, BD MGIT, Bruker Sirius MALDI-TOF, COBAS U701, Uri-MAST, COBAS 6800, COBAS 8000, VERIGENE Nanosphere, HOLOGIC Panther, Diasorin XL, and VirClia Lotus.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in all aspects of general medical microbiology diagnostic testing and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude, a commitment to high-quality service, and previous experience working in a clinical laboratory. They will be expected to work towards and complete the IBMS Microbiology Specialist Portfolio and be a team player.
The role involves working in all aspects of microbiology diagnostic testing, including microscopy, plate reading, antibiotic susceptibility testing, CL3 work, molecular microbiology, mycology, and serology.
The successful applicant will support staff training and development, participate in quality management activities to maintain UKAS accreditation, and be an integral part of the team ensuring high standards of service.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with training, competency assessments, audits, and supervising junior staff.
The position requires flexible working, including weekends and public holidays on a rotational basis, and participation in the out-of-hours on-call service. The post is full-time, working 8 am to 8 pm (37.5 hours) over a 7-day week.
