Overview of the position We are looking for a detail-orientated Research & Development Chemist to join our Divisional R&D team in Pembridge, Herefordshire, on a full-time, permanent basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of innovation, preparing advanced polyurethane and phenolic resin systems and conducting performance testing on polymer foams. You’ll play a key part in developing cutting-edge solutions, with occasional travel to other sites for trials. Responsibilities of our Research & Development Chemist Preparing and cutting polyurethane and phenolic foam samples. Mixing and running elementary foam formulations with laboratory chemicals. Performing small scale fire tests. Operating various pieces of laboratory equipment: foam rise profile kit, thermal conductivity instruments, compressive and tensile testing apparatus, video microscope, FTIR spectrometer, GC-MS, cone calorimeter, Karl-Fischer apparatus, pycnometer (closed cell apparatus) and routine laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens. Carrying out projects as directed by the Head of Technology (or Senior Chemist). Keeping up-to-date with relevant scientific & technical developments. Recording and analysing data. Planning, setting up and undertaking experimental production trials. Providing technical support. Presenting results to senior staff. Ordering and maintaining stock and resources. Writing reports, reviews and summaries. What we are looking for in our Research & Development Chemist You will have: Experience of working in the Chemical industry. Educated to at least A-Level / HNC in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Technology, Material Sciences or a similar subject.
