M&E Technical Director £120,000 – £140,000 car allowance bonus | Building Services | Commercial, Healthcare, Mission-Critical We are recruiting an M&E Technical Director to lead the technical function across a building services led principal contractor. You will own technical governance from bid through design, delivery, commissioning and handover, ensuring projects are compliant, buildable and commercially robust. Working with clients, consultants, supply chain and internal delivery teams, you will shape briefs, drive design excellence and support new business growth while leading and developing a multidisciplinary technical team. What you are delivering * Technical accuracy, compliance and consistency across all M&E projects and contracts. * Robust project briefs, feasibility studies, site appraisals and option studies that set schemes up for success. * Fully coordinated MEP designs from inception to completion, aligned to client requirements, programme and budget. * Well-managed MEP tender processes, from scope definition and pricing schedules through to contract award. * Clear technical risk identification, mitigation strategies and compliance pathways. * Repeat business and new sales opportunities through trusted technical leadership and client engagement. * A high-performing technical team with clear objectives, development plans and performance management. What you need knowledge in * MEP design and delivery across commercial, healthcare and mission-critical/building services projects. * UK codes and standards: Building Regulations, CIBSE guides, HTMs (for healthcare), relevant British Standards, SFG20 and water hygiene requirements. * Design management best practice from RIBA Stages 1–6, including coordination with architectural, structural and specialist disciplines. * Tendering and procurement routes for MEP consultants, commissioning managers, suppliers and subcontractors. * Risk management, value engineering methodologies and lifecycle/whole-life costing principles. * Testing, commissioning, IST and handover processes for complex M&E systems. What you need experience in * Proven track record in a senior MEP technical leadership role (e.g. Technical Director, Head of Engineering, Technical Manager) for a contractor, consultant or developer. * Leading multi-disciplinary design and technical teams across multiple concurrent projects. * Writing and negotiating scopes, deliverables and fees with consultants, commissioning specialists and supply chain partners. * Direct involvement in bids, proposals and client-facing technical presentations that have secured new business. * Strong commercial awareness: understanding the link between technical decisions, cost, programme and risk. * Confident leadership style with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, support project teams and develop engineers at all levels.
