Whitburn Academy is a six-year comprehensive school offering our 855 students in the Whitburn area a progressive, relevant, challenging, and enjoyable curriculum with opportunities for personalisation and choice. We strive to ensure that students have the highest quality learning experiences.
We offer the full range of National Qualifications found in a modern Scottish secondary school. Our aim is to provide experiences that foster a creative and enterprising attitude, developing young people with pride and ambition to contribute positively to the community locally, nationally, and internationally.
Whitburn Academy provides opportunities for all students to succeed. Our excellent facilities and dedicated staff enable us to offer the highest standards of education in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment where achievements are valued and recognised.
We believe the curriculum encompasses not only what students learn but also how they learn. Emphasising the student experience, we seek flexibility to ensure success in examinations and personal achievement pathways.
The school employs 65 teaching staff, with departments organised under the direction of a Principal Teacher Curriculum responsible for each curricular area.
You will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure a high-quality student experience aligned with curricular design principles and student entitlements, aiming to maximise achievement and attainment for all. Our vision, “Empowering our young people to learn and achieve, allowing them to thrive now and in the future,” guides our daily efforts. The school values—compassion, integrity, respect—are central to our community.
We are committed to employing a diverse workforce that reflects Scotland’s population. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from groups underrepresented, including people with disabilities, minority ethnic communities, and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
West Lothian Council is dedicated to innovative education service delivery, supporting staff development and high standards. Our commitment is demonstrated by our achievement of the Investors in People Standard and our continuous improvement efforts.
