Overview
Are you a Consultant who is enthusiastic and dedicated to working within Psychiatry? We have an opportunity within our Children and Young People\'s Inpatient Services to be part of the development and opening of an 8 bedded CAMHS High Intensity Environment/PICU opening early 2026. This is a full-time post at Alumhurst Road in Westbourne, Dorset. You will work alongside another Consultant Psychiatrist and may continue in the General Adolescent Unit or move to the new CAMHS PICU when it opens.

Responsibilities
Consultant clinical duties on the inpatient unit include assessment and treatment planning for patients with complex presentations. Activities include direct face-to-face time, meetings with families and community staff, reviewing records, clinical report writing, tribunal work, daily ward reviews with staff, CPA and discharge planning meetings. You will work closely with Community CAMHS colleagues to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people across Dorset. Pebble Lodge is a General Adolescent Unit with accreditation to place core and specialist trainees.
You will collaborate with consultant colleagues within community CAMHS, inpatient unit and in the community team for children and young people with intellectual disabilities and specialist Forensic CAMHS. The teams are based in Bournemouth, Poole, Blandford, Weymouth and Dorchester.
You will be expected to maintain Section 12 (2) and be an Approved Clinician. The post includes 10 days of study leave per year and an annual study leave budget up to £1,000.
Qualifications
Essential
* General medical qualification (e.g. MBBS) and Licence to Practise.
* MRCPsych or recognised equivalent (e.g. membership of a psychiatry college in another country).
Desirable
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Additional clinical qualification.
Eligibility
Essential
* Must be in possession or within 6 months of possession of a CCT in Psychiatry or on Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
* Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or ability to obtain approval before starting post.
* On Specialist Register in the relevant psychiatry specialty.
Desirable
* Experience of medicine outside psychiatry (e.g. general practice, medicine).
Clinical Skills and Experience
Essential
* Excellent knowledge in the specialty and evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement.
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social approach and wide medical knowledge.
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA; make evidence-based decisions; strong written and oral communication skills.
Desirable
* Teaching experience; wide range of specialist and sub-specialist NHS or equivalent experience.
Governance and Leadership
Essential
* Understanding of clinical governance and current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
* Able to provide clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team; management/leadership training; ability to manage priorities.
Desirable
* Previous management experience including supervision of junior medical staff.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks apply. UK registration with current professional status is required. The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and related checks. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship will be considered.
