About the Role
An established, family-run garden centre focused on horticulture and lifestyle is looking for a Plant Area Manager to join their growing team. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing all aspects of the outdoor retail space.

The business is a successful, family-run garden centre with a strong reputation for retail excellence and customer service. Located in the picturesque area of Monmouthshire, nestled in the heart of the Black Mountains, the centre attracts both a loyal local customer base and seasonal visitors. With excellent road links via the A465 and M4 corridor, the location is easily accessible from surrounding towns and regions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the day-to-day operations of the plant area, ensuring high standards in stock, presentation, and customer service.
2. Drive sales through effective merchandising, upselling, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
3. Manage stock effectively-ensuring availability, accuracy, and presentation.
4. Deliver high-quality visual merchandising to maximise product displays.
5. Build and maintain strong relationships within the horticultural supply chain.
6. Collaborate with and support the wider management team to contribute to overall business success.
7. Take responsibility for staff development, knowledge sharing, and performance management.
8. Attend off-site meetings, industry events, and exhibitions as required.
9. Participate in centre opening and closing duties on a rota basis.
What We're Looking For
10. Horticultural Expertise: Extensive knowledge of plants and plant husbandry.
11. Retail Experience: Strong background in garden centre or similar retail environments.
12. Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
13. Commercial Focus: Comfortable working to targets and driving profitability.
14. Customer Focused: Passionate about delivering excellent service and engaging customers.
15. IT Literate: Confident using Excel and stock management systems.
16. Team-Oriented: Willing to support other departments to achieve shared goals.
17. Resilient & Committed: Driven, proactive, and able to thrive in a busy retail environment.
Working Hours
5 days over 7, including alternate weekends. Averaging 40 hours per week:
Monday-Saturday: 08:45 - 17:30
Sunday: 09:00 - 17:00
