4-5 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary: This role involves providing dedicated support to adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, both in day service and community settings. Working as part of a team or on a one-to-one basis, the post holder will help deliver individualised support based on assessed needs and support plans. This includes assisting with personal care, enabling participation in meaningful activities, and promoting independence and social inclusion. This is a customer-facing role with a mobile working style. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): Deliver high-quality personal care and support with eating, drinking, and specialist feeding (e.g., PEG feeds) while upholding dignity and respect. Assist in the safe administration of prescribed and emergency rescue medication. Support and enable service users to access a wide range of activities, both within service buildings and in the wider community, tailored to individual preferences and goals. Promote independent living skills such as meal preparation, shopping, and money management. Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily diaries, incident forms, and health charts (e.g., seizure logs). Communicate effectively using various methods (e.g. signs, symbols, objects of reference) to support choice and participation. Actively contribute to safeguarding vulnerable adults, challenging poor practice and reporting concerns. Provide emotional support and apply de-escalation techniques where required. Build and maintain positive relationships with service users, families, carers, and other professionals. Drive service vehicles (if applicable) to assist with transport to and from activities. Advocate for service users to ensure their views and preferences are heard and respected. Mentor and support new team members or agency staff as part of team development. Skills/Experience: Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs. Basic literacy and numeracy skills; capable of maintaining clear and accurate records. Understanding of the importance of dignity, respect, and sensitivity in care provision. Ability to support personal care, including manual handling, in line with regulatory guidelines. Familiarity with safeguarding principles and procedures. Good interpersonal and communication skills, especially in supporting individuals who may not communicate verbally. Physical coordination to operate hoists and mobility equipment safely. Capable of following instructions and using initiative within agreed frameworks. Experience in promoting independence and social inclusion through daily living skills. Commitment to ongoing professional development and attending relevant training. Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g., safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity). Knowledge of support strategies for individuals who challenge services. Experience using specialist communication tools (e.g., Total Communication). Understanding of key professional standards and codes of conduct. Additional Information: Full UK driving licence. Willingness to complete driver and passenger assistant certification (where not already held). This role is shift-based and requires flexibility to work across a variety of scheduled hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts. ADZN1_UKTJ
