Overview
Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) aims to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation. The role seeks a leader to drive a culture of rehabilitation with integrity and high expectations, ensuring a vibrant, safe environment that unlocks the potential of prisoners.
Job Objectives and Responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company policies, and HMPPS standards.
* Oversee and deliver services including Care and Separation Unit, Safer Custody and Violence Reduction, Equality & Diversity, Residential Units, Use of Force, Transitional Support Unit, Assisted Living Unit, and Faith Services.
* Line manage Prison Custody Managers and undertake the responsibilities of Duty Director and Chair Adjudications.
* Support, supervise, motivate, and monitor staff to deliver safe, secure and decent service.
* Develop and implement strategic priorities in line with company values.
* Lead risk management, proactive performance improvement, and complex incident management.
* Represent the prison in the wider community and build stakeholder networks.
* Develop policies and procedures, carry out on‑call duties, and work with Senior Management Team to meet KPIs and CDIs.
* Collect and maintain operational and administrative data in accordance with policies.
Person Specification
* Previous experience in a custodial or secure environment.
* Managerial experience leading a team of 5‑15 staff.
* Basic to intermediate IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook); experience updating central data systems.
Preferred Qualifications and Training
* Operational experience in prisons and knowledge of prison legislation, policies, standards, inspection and audit processes.
* Understanding of the wider criminal justice system.
* Silver Command training, incident and hostage management training, and adjudication training.
* Qualifications or experience equivalent to Level 3 or above (A levels, Advanced Apprenticeships, IB diplomas, Level 3 Awards, Certificates, NVQ).
