Job Description

New Directions Education is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Education Studies graduates to join a number of inclusive and welcoming primary schools across Chester.

This is an ideal opportunity for recent graduates looking to bring their theoretical knowledge into a hands-on classroom environment, while gaining invaluable experience supporting pupils – including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) – in both 1:1 and group settings.

Whether you’re looking to explore a career in teaching, educational psychology, or SEN support, this role offers meaningful experience and ongoing development within a supportive school environment.

1. A recent degree in Education Studies or a related field
2. A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their educational journey
3. Knowledge of child development, learning theory, or inclusive education
4. Strong communication and teamwork skills
5. A calm, resilient, and proactive approach to learning support
6. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

7. NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
8. NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
9. Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
10. CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
11. BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

Jobs in additional learning needs (ALN)

A large number of our jobs are in ALN and we fill many vacancies in schools with candidates who have particular experience in working with children classified as having:

12. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
13. Dyslexia
14. Dyspraxia
15. Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
16. Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
17. Profound and Moderate Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
18. Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
19. Severe Learning Difficulties
20. Physical Disabilities (PD).

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

21. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
22. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
23. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
24. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
25. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
