Nelson Permanent Placements are currently recruiting for a Logistics Manager to work for our client who are market leading global manufacturer that currently turnover £600M as a group. The successful applicant will be working out of their UK hub in the West Midlands taking full control of their logistics function.
As the Logistics Manager you will report to the Operations Director and play a key role in driving the strategy of the business logistics.
Our client doesn’t have a WMS however this is something that is in plans over the next 12 months, therefore someone who has experience implementing a WMS system would be highly preferred.
Our client is looking for a results orientated individual who has a proven track record or driving forward a fast paced operation with regards to Quality, Cost and Delivery.
You must be a team player working with various departments across the business like finance, supply chain, operations and sales.
To be considered for this role
* 10 + Years experience within operational logistics
* 10+ years 3PL services provider or freight forwarding industry experience
* Experience working within Manufacturing logstics
Package
* £65-£70K (DOE) + Bonus
Responsibilities of the Role
* Set out, establish and oversee the logistics strategy and best practices for logistics processes that enables the physical distribution of products as well as the administrative control and information flow. Own and lead the innovation and continuous improvement agenda for logistics including digital initiatives.
* Facilitate an environment for the identification of best practices for logistics execution that may be standardised and uniformly applied at for the physical distribution of products encompassing warehousing and local distribution.
* Senior sponsor for partnerships and sourcing programs with global 3PLs that can be used by the business to deliver outsourced services for warehousing, transport and international logistics.
* Senior sponsor and focal point for global trade compliance at a senior management level, including structure and organisational definition and implementation of processes and technology investments. Work with external advisers and internal senior owners of global trade compliance to ensure ongoing governance.
* Represent and contribute on behalf of the logistics function when the organisation engages in strategic projects, business ventures or seeks to expand into emerging and new markets as well as key initiatives surrounding EH&S, and CSR.
* Represent and contribute on behalf of the logistics function when the organisation seeks to rationalise, review or invest in technology platforms that affect the logistics organisation directly or indirectly.
* Set out a succession and development plan for the entire logistics organisation that encourages investment in skills, the evolution of capabilities and harvesting of the right competencies and talent for the function.
Deliverables of the Role
* Define the logistics strategy for the logistics functions that is aligned with the overall supply chain strategy. Set out and ensure the function exceeds key operational, service, financial and compliance metrics.
* Create and manage the logistics function, including the availability of analyse, logistics expenditure and budget allocation.
* Oversee the deployment of reliable and efficient supply routes for opportunities in new territories or new business ventures.
* Identify on an annual basis new efficiencies and customer service improvements through innovative approaches to logistics such as new technologies, trade opportunities such as bonded warehousing, routes to market, network redesigns, consolidating shipping, stocking hubs and process segmentation.
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to articulate the vision and roadmap for logistics development, including prioritisation of tasks, allocation of resources and discouraging activities that are not aligned with the vision.
* Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills in order to communicate effectively across all levels within the organisation and multiple cultures.
* Excellent knowledge of the logistics environment, encompassing global trade compliance, warehousing, domestic distribution and international logistics.
* Excellent knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain, with a clarity for understanding the importance and interdependencies associated with each stage of the process — Plan, Source, Make, Deliver.
Academic Qualifications and Work Experience
* Supply chain degree is desirable, in addition to professional memberships such as CILT
* Ten+ years' operational logistics experience in relevant industries.
* Ten+ years' 3PL services provider or freight forwarding industry experience.
* Excellent level of written and spoken English
