This is an exciting opportunity to work flexibly on an ad hoc basis, supporting individuals during mental health crises and providing vital transportation services across the region.
About the Role:
As a Mental Health Ambulance Care Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to support service users with mental health needs during transportation to hospitals, mental health facilities, prisons, or homes. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, police, and other healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. Most transfers involve two- or three-person crews, but occasional solo driving may be required. Key duties include assisting with patient handling, safe transport, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
Candidate Responsibilities:
Support service users onboard specialist mental health ambulances
Collaborate with healthcare professionals during transfers
Transport individuals safely between various facilities and locations
Assist with patient handling, transfers, and physical intervention if necessary
Complete accurate handovers to clinical teams
Maintain vehicle safety and cleanliness

Full UK manual driving licence
Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs or in similar care environments
Calm, considerate, and confident approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Physically fit for patient handling duties
PMVA training (essential)
Ability to work flexibly with various shift patterns including early mornings, evenings, and weekendsShift Availability:
The role offers flexible ad hoc shifts, including:
07:00–19:00
10:00–22:00
08:00–20:00
09:00–17:00
06:00–14:00
08:00–16:00
10:00–20:00
