The role
As a Senior Specialist Mechanical, you’ll lead and manage a team of engineers responsible for maintaining and deploying critical mechanical systems that support the Royal Navy’s submarine capability. This is a role where your expertise will directly contribute to national security and operational excellence, while offering you the chance to grow your leadership skills and technical knowledge in a dynamic environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Leading and managing a diverse team of engineers to deliver operational capability.
2. Driving the implementation of safety, quality, and environmental policies.
3. Ensuring risk assessments are completed and safe working practices are maintained.
4. Overseeing the deployment and maintenance of high-pressure air, hyperbaric, and diving systems.
5. Maintaining accurate records of team activities, including overtime and absences.
This is a full-time role (36 hours per week, Monday–Thursday (07:15–16:45), and is based onsite at Faslane.
Essential experience of the Senior Specialist Mechanical:
6. Proven leadership and team management skills.
7. Strong problem-solving abilities.
8. Knowledge of high-pressure air systems.
9. Experience with hyperbaric and diving systems.
10. Excellent report writing skills.
Qualifications for the Senior Specialist Mechanical:
11. Recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
12. HNC in Engineering or equivalent.
13. Level 4 O₂ Practices.
14. SWAGELOK Installation certification.
15. Nuclear Submarine Quality Assurance Course.
