All research and development is carried out from our headquarters in Halesowen while our product testing and certification is carried out with reputable 3rd parties and approved Notified Bodies.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Conformance Officer to be a key player within our Product & Design team. This is a thrilling time to join the Spada brand on our journey into new markets, with the opportunity to become part of a vibrant team, offering scope for development of yourself and your role.
As the Product Conformance Officer, you will be reporting to Spada’s Product Development & Design Manager and will hold responsibility for ensuring all products comply with the relevant regulatory requirements, laws and standards across our full range of CE PPE, clothing, footwear and accessories. You will be tasked with helping to develop the Spada brand to be the go‑to motorcycle apparel company by creating best‑in‑class quality within every garment that we release.
Key Responsibilities
* Working with our Garment Technologist and Design Team to manage the fabric and product testing function, ensuring all required compliance is in place, including CE and all regional, national and international laws in all countries we export and sell our products
* Monitor changes in regulations and ensure the organisation adapts accordingly.
* Keeping compliance‑related documentation and processes up to date such as declaration of conformities, technical files, Certificates, CE User Manuals
* Review and improve processes and operations
* Collaborate with product development and marketing to ensure compliance at all stages of the product lifecycle
* Risk assess each product from sample stage to production sign‑off and when making business decisions provide expert and timely advice to the product team to achieve best‑in‑class product
* Test sample management: Assess product to Identify and request samples from suppliers and submit for testing
* Assess results of test reports, addressing any problem areas and actioning solutions.
* Collating and confirming bill of materials for each garment
* Ensure product labelling compliance for all SPADA Products
* Creating Product Technical Files and submit to Notifying Bodies for assessment.
* Keeping the Key Stake Holders up to date on CE certificate validations across the range.
* Work with the Purchasing Department to manage the Product Conformance function of the critical path
* Maintain a fabric and seams library for on‑going product development
* Manage the day‑to‑day communications with factories relative to Product Conformance
* Act as the subject expert providing interpretation of standards and advice to the Product, Marketing and Customer Service teams
Requirements
* Extensive experience as a PPE Technician / Assessor
* Expert knowledge of the stages and requirements of the CE PPE certification process.
* Experience with technical PPE clothing products such as cycling/ motorcycling/industrial workwear/motorsports
* Effective at analysis and decision making.
* Able to work under pressure and come up with solutions.
* High attention to detail.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
* Show passion for the product through a proactive and motivated approach to your work.
* Experience of working with international suppliers.
* Have excellent relationship and communication management skills.
* Can diversify experience to benefit a small team, whilst being hands on and championing positive change.
* Flexible, willing to learn and keep up to date with the latest developments in technology.
* Have excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise.
* Excellent work ethic, highly organised.
* Adobe Illustrator skills would be advantageous.
* BA or equivalent qualification in a clothing or engineering related subject.
* Commercial awareness of clothing manufacture and motorcycle clothing.
* A member of the BSI Standards Committee.
* Adobe Illustrator skills would be advantageous.
* Good knowledge of fabrics, technical components and sewing techniques.
* An understanding of garment construction and manufacture.
* Experience in motorcycle PPE.
* Interest in motorcycling and other action sports
* The desire to take a brand to new heights with innovative ideas
There may be a requirement for international travel to carry out business with existing and prospective suppliers.
