Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Locum Consultant Nephrologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with subspecialty interest in Renal Transplant Medicine. The post is a fixed term of 12 months. The successful applicant will support our outpatient renal transplant service and undertake outpatient nephrology clinics and the full range of inpatient nephrology and acute transplantation services. The post will comprise 10 Programmed Activities, with potential for additional PAs by mutual agreement with the successful candidate.
About the Trust and Unit
Nottingham University Hospitals Trust is a large university teaching hospital serving a local population of 675,000 with a Renal Transplantation catchment area of 1.79 million. The emergency department based on the Queens Medical Campus is among the busiest in Europe. NUH has close links with local universities and is focused on research and development. The renal and transplant unit currently supports around 750 prevalent transplant patients and over 450 dialysis patients, with programmes for peritoneal and home haemodialysis and three satellite dialysis units. Approximately 80-90 transplants are performed per year, including live donor transplantation; there are around 250 patients on the transplant list. The region relies on a Midlands network for transplant services and related renal units.
Responsibilities
* Support our outpatient renal transplant service and undertake outpatient nephrology clinics.
* Manage the full range of inpatient nephrology and acute transplantation services.
* Cover will include approximately 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with scope for additional PA work by mutual agreement.
* Work within a dynamic and cohesive team of thirteen Renal Consultants, one Consultant in ITU/Renal Medicine, and five Transplant Surgeons.
Working Environment
The Nottingham Renal and Transplant Unit provides all aspects of care for adult renal disease in the mid-Trent area, with a Renal and Transplant Unit featuring dedicated wards, outpatient facilities, home therapies area, and two Haemodialysis Units. The unit is a regional centre for paediatric nephrology and provides renal services at Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield.
