A well-regarded and inclusive 11–18 secondary school in Worcester is seeking to appoint a committed and inspiring Teacher of English to join its established English department. This is a full-time position within a school known for its strong academic culture, clear behaviour systems and supportive working environment. English plays a central role in the life of the school, with the department recognised for both strong examination outcomes and its contribution to students’ wider cultural and personal development. This opportunity would suit an English teacher who values thoughtful curriculum design, high-quality classroom practice and positive professional relationships. The Role You will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach KS5 for candidates with appropriate experience. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build students’ reading, writing and analytical skills progressively, with a strong emphasis on literacy, oracy and extended writing. At Key Stage 3, lessons focus on developing confident readers and writers through a range of classic and contemporary texts. Teaching places a strong emphasis on structured discussion, modelling of analytical writing and building subject-specific vocabulary. At GCSE, the department follows a clear and consistent approach to exam preparation, combining secure subject knowledge with regular practice in exam-style responses. Students are well supported through targeted interventions and structured feedback, enabling strong progress across ability ranges. Teachers are encouraged to bring their own interests and expertise to the classroom while working within a shared framework that ensures consistency and reduces unnecessary workload. The English Department The English department is a collaborative and experienced team with a strong culture of shared planning and professional dialogue. Schemes of work, assessments and core resources are centrally developed and regularly reviewed, allowing teachers to focus on high-quality delivery rather than constant resource creation. Department meetings are purposeful and focused on teaching and learning, including: Curriculum refinement and sequencing Approaches to teaching reading and writing Strategies for supporting diverse learners Moderation and assessment practice New staff are well supported through informal mentoring and regular collaboration with colleagues. The School This Good-rated secondary school serves a broad and diverse community and is known locally for its calm learning environment and strong pastoral support. Students are respectful, engaged and respond well to clear expectations and positive relationships. Leadership is visible and approachable, with a genuine commitment to staff wellbeing. Workload is carefully considered, and teachers are trusted as professionals to deliver high-quality lessons without unnecessary bureaucracy. Staff retention is strong, and the school has a reputation for being a supportive and stable place to work. Facilities and Learning Environment The English department is based in a dedicated area of the school, with bright classrooms equipped to support discussion-based learning and modelling. Digital resources are used thoughtfully to support teaching, and students have access to library and research facilities that support independent reading and extended study. The Ideal Candidate You will: Hold QTS or equivalent Have strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature Be confident teaching across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable) Value structured teaching, clear routines and positive classroom relationships Be reflective, organised and collaborative Why Join This School?
