Role overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chartered Geotechnical design practitioner to join our geotechnical engineering team within the infrastructure division. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the ground engineering elements of complex projects, which include roads, rail, and strategic developments. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing sustainable geotechnical solutions and ensuring the successful delivery of projects while exceeding client expectations.
What you'll be doing
Leadership and Team Management: Lead the delivery of geotechnical elements of inter-disciplinary projects, predominantly in the highway sector. This includes liaison with other disciplinary leads (project management, highways, structures, environment) and providing guidance and technical support to others in the team. Working with other members of the geotechnical community to distribute tasks and ensure their delivery to required technical standards and program. Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment to encourage professional growth and development, including training and mentoring others within the geotechnical community.
Project Management: Oversee all aspects of geotechnical project delivery, from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to technical standards, budgets, and schedules.
Technical Expertise: Take responsibility for, and provide technical input on, geotechnical design on a project-by-project basis, either undertaking the work directly or managing and mentoring other team members to do so. Scoping and interpreting ground investigations. Providing expert technical input and checking the work of others, including optioneering and detailed design of: earthworks / slope stability, deep and shallow foundation, ground improvement and retaining structures. Preferably have experience using geotechnical software packages such as Geo5 to analyse and design solutions. Competency of Plaxis is not essential but would be well received. Take responsibility for report writing, either directly or managing and mentoring other team members to do so, and obtaining technical approval from third-party bodies such as National Highways.
Client Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external clients, understanding their needs and expectations. Manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of issues.
Strategic Development: Working with the other geotechnical leaders, contribute to the strategic development of geotechnical engineering capabilities within the company, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, integrating innovative solutions into project delivery.
