In this pivotal role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring the seamless operation of healthcare facilities — enhancing patient care, safety, and overall experience. You’ll lead a skilled team, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and innovation within a highly regulated and mission-critical setting.
The Role
As Head of Operations, you will:
* Lead and develop estates shift teams, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and a “right first time” approach.
* Oversee reactive and planned maintenance programmes, ensuring delivery within time, cost, and quality parameters.
* Provide technical and strategic support for lifecycle and capital works projects, engaging with consultants and project boards.
* Manage budgets effectively, ensuring all service contracts deliver best value and operational excellence.
* Ensure full compliance with all legislative and healthcare regulatory requirements.
* Support strategic estates planning and, where required, act as deputy to senior estates leadership.
* Drive innovation and performance through data-led decision-making, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a motivated and technically strong estates professional with a proven track record in healthcare or similarly complex environments. You will bring:
* A bachelor’s degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Professional membership (e.g., IMechE, CIBSE) is desirable.
* Extensive experience managing Hard FM assets and services in a healthcare or large, complex environment.
* In-depth knowledge of engineering systems such as medical gases and ventilation.
* Strong understanding of Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs) and Health Building Notes (HBNs).
* Previous experience as an Authorised Person (AP) under NHS guidelines is advantageous.
