The Opportunity
Were seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Retail Finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, based at our Preston Head Office.
Reporting to the Financial Controller - Retail Finance, this role supports the delivery of accurate and timely financial results across a large national network of Chemist Warehouse stores. This is a hands-on role focused on month-end processes, reconciliations and reporting, suited to someone with prior assistant accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.
It\s an excellent opportunity to build on your accounting experience within a high-volume retail business that forms part of a Top 50 ASX-listed healthcare group.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with period-end accounting and reporting for Chemist Warehouse stores
* Prepare monthly profit and loss statements and internal management reporting
* Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations
* Support general ledger maintenance and month-end close activities
* Respond to finance queries by gathering, analysing and interpreting data
* Assist with budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc reporting
* Support process improvement initiatives within the Retail Finance team
About You
To succeed in this role, you\ll bring:
* Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance support role
* A degree in Accounting or Finance
* Studying towards or completed CAANZ or CPA
* Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and month-end processes
* Intermediate Excel skills and a high level of attention to detail
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines
* A proactive, collaborative approach and clear communication style
