The role
As a Safety Performance Advisor, you’ll play a vital role in strengthening safety culture and ensuring continuous improvement across one of the UK’s most complex and strategically important engineering environments. You will help embed robust processes that support learning from events, drive consistent safety performance, and enable operational teams to work confidently and effectively.
Day-to-day, you’ll use your analytical mindset and communication skills to support event management, data accuracy, performance reporting and learning from experience. You will be central to helping Babcock become a true learning organisation, one that values insight, transparency and safety excellence at every level.
1. Support event owners and investigators, ensuring events are tracked, monitored and completed successfully.
2. Produce and present performance dashboards and SHE reports to support monthly business unit meetings.
3. Act as the focal point for accurate event data, ensuring information is captured, coded and maintained for learning and trending.
4. Assist with event reviews, action effectiveness meetings and identification of non‑conformances, turning insights into practical improvements.
5. Analyse safety performance data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for continuous improvement.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Safety Performance Advisor
6. Strong working knowledge of the Devonport site, including interfaces with the Naval Base and Authorised Site.
7. Understanding of Nuclear Site Licence requirements and experience within defence or highly regulated environments.
8. Proficiency in safety management databases (e.g., Synergi Life), with strong numeracy and advanced IT skills.
9. Proven commitment to safety standards, professionalism and best practice.
10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
Qualifications for the Safety Performance Advisor
11. IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent experience - Essential
12. Advanced Excel capability - Essential
13. Data analysis‑related training or equivalent experience - Desirable
