Following a review of the environment and re-structure of In-Patient Services we have an opportunity to recruit a part time (16 hours per week) Band 8A Ligature Minimisation Lead for Prospect Park Hospital, to work directly with our ISS and Prospect Health partners, and the In-Patient clinical Teams to reduce the potential harm to patients due to environmental ligature risks.

Prospect Park Hospital is based in Reading, located close to the amenities of the town centre and a leafy park, the wards work closely with patients and families to help them to identify their needs and participate actively in their care, providing a place of empathy, kindness, and compassion. We are looking for an experienced clinician who has worked within Acute In-patient mental health settings and has a good understanding of the environmental risks associated with fixed ligatures. The person needs to have a proven track record of delivering training and developing others as well as the required communication skills to quickly develop trusted relationships with both clinical and estates colleagues. He/she must be capable, reliable, highly organised, warm, and dynamic professional who has previous experience of working at Band 8a level and in working across systems and boundaries to achieve clearly identified goals.


Main duties of the job

Lead the ligature minimisation process across Berkshire Healthcare.

Leading on audit processes and working with teams to develop operational and technical solutions.

Collaborate with numerous stakeholders including CQC, NHSE, Clinicians, Compliance & Risk Teams, Estates and Facilities Teams (both PFI and Trust teams) and Divisional Leadership team for all aspects of ligature minimisation.

Facilitate the development of the ISS Team in the area of harm minimisation and environment ligature risks.

Job responsibilities

Some of themust haves for you to be considered for this role:

* Registered Healthcare Professional (e.g. RMN, S/W OT)
* Previous experience of working within Acute Mental Health In-Patient settings.
* Evidence of ongoing relevant professional development and self-improvement to support patient experience.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to use these both on the ward and in other internal/ external forums and situations.
* Previous experience of Teaching or training and working across other professional groups.

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications/ Training

* Registered Mental Health Nurse/RN
* Relevant Post-basic clinical qualification(s) with a professional portfolio supporting this.
* Relevant teaching qualification


Previous Experience

* Substantial post registration experience in a clinical nurse specialisation and/or senior nursing position, to include significant leadership functions within a MH In-patient environment.
* Substantial experience of working across both In-patient and Community Services facilitating assessment of admission avoidance, early discharge planning and multi-agency care planning initiatives.
* Specific, recent clinical experience in a senior capacity within Mental Health Services
* Currently engaged in significant clinical work with people with a complex mental illness at an advanced level of practice and can demonstrate a high degree of professional autonomy in this area.
* Evidence of applying research to advance practice.
* Teaching experience across NHS / University settings.
* Publication of material in specialist mental health services within nursing and healthcare journals
* Evidence of significant research experience.
* PFI-run healthcare building experience.
* Experience of influencing the advancement of mental health care.
* To have participated in research activity.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Specialist knowledge of specialist Mental Health Services
* Knowledge of mental health services supervision models
* Principles of managing change
* Highly qualified in delivering a range of evidenced based therapies and interventions
* Leadership skills e.g. can exercise leadership to support and inspire colleagues.
* Advanced keyboard and IT skills
* Advanced / higher level in practice in mental health nursing.
* Analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Goal setting and delivery of targets within deadlines. Working well under pressure, within tight deadlines, and producing good quality results.
* Research, audit and quality improvement methodologies and their application.
