Location: Somerset Contract: Permanent, Full time What will you be responsible for? As a Works Manager, you'll be working within the Reactive Maintenance team, supporting them in the delivery of reactive maintenance activities on the Somerset Highways Term Service Contract, including but not limited to, reactive maintenance, emergency response, adverse weather, and routine maintenance. Your day to day will include: Managing yourself and the Reactive Works team personnel by looking at personal development, motivation, performance, behaviour, health, safety and general wellbeing through the application of appropriate policies, procedures and management techniques. Fully contributing towards Somerset' achievement of performance management framework outcomes through the best possible operational outputs, optimising the facilities available at operational depots so as to best safeguard all forms of highway maintenance activity, including winter maintenance Monitoring the financial management of all aspects of operational works, taking appropriate steps to counter non-commercially viable activity and secure the best financial gain for Somerset Highways, minimising future maintenance liabilities by instigating changes in work practices and using agreed innovative techniques, thereby contributing to and implementing asset management plans and principles Understanding and implementation of the Somerset IMS to ensure that processes / procedures are understood and followed, working closely with the Programme & Performance Manager to co-ordinate all works to budget and on time, being part of the escalation and winter decision making rota to support the emergency and adverse weather service Respond to increasing financial pressure by being creative, innovative and cost-focused, exercising strong financial judgement and risk management to secure optimum efficiency savings, cost reductions and profitability without sacrificing service quality, ensuring the timely operational delivery of reactive and routine maintenance work, emergency service and adverse weather through efficient and effective deployment of available resources What are we looking for? This role of Works Manager is great for you if: Proven experience of successfully managing highways maintenance works, emergency and adverse weather operations, in-depth knowledge of highway / finance law, guidance and processes across a range of highway infrastructure operational delivery functions Extensive experience and in-depth working knowledge of CDM Regulations, safety, health, environmental and traffic management Drive and hold a full driving licence to visit various locations and a current holder of NRSWA (supervisors) certificate We're all about finding potential here at Kier, and transferrable skills are always welcome So, even if you don't tick every box, please apply and we can have a chat.
